Year 4 have been looking at the Romans and their impact on Britain. As part of this we made shields with parents as our helpers. We decided to have some fun with our fabulously designed shields so 4LM went outside to have a go at the 'tortoise' which is a tactic the Romans used to avoid incoming arrows and spears. We also did some research on the Romans to see what we could discover.
During the Bank Holiday weekend (on Sunday) Barnsley were part of a fantastic sporting event. Our town was part of the route taken by the Tour De Yorkshire. This meant lots of famous cyclists rode through our town on their bikes. As it was Sunday we couldn't organise a trip to watch but luckily Miss G happens to live right by the route so took a video. I wonder how many of you managed to get to the town centre to watch?
Year 4 were invited to WHSmiths as part of a reading initiative with the Literacy Trust. We absolutely loved the time we spent there. After a speedy march to the station we headed to Barnsley town centre on the train. When we got to Barnsley we headed to WHSmiths where we met Jenny and Louise who told us all about how they order and categorise books and showed us where we could even find books we might love. The best bit was we all got a free book to take home! We can wait for the next part of our reading task...watch this space!
